Manual, V8, rwd, luxury track machine. That’s a lot of checked boxes.
The 04 Cadillac interior is laughably bad but the bones are solid. What say you?

I’d give that a NP. Just has to throw in all the missing lugnuts.

FYI all this silver stuff on the dash is a stick-on trim kit.

In the same age/mileage/price-range, you can have an STI, a Tacoma, or this. Or a Lincoln limo! NP.

Apparently the Gen 1 Vs have particularly fragile rear ends, but this car looks to be well maintained. NP!
I struggle to think of any car interiors from that time period that weren’t laughably bad.

They have impressive performance, but many annoying quirks.
6 lug wheels means aftermarket options are nil. Clutch is a 2 stage, so if you release it just a little too fast it feels like you just side stepped it. Shifter is very rubbery and vague. Seats are difficult to get into a comfortable position. Navigation is pretty useless without a factory DVD. Wear parts are expensive ($600 for rear shocks).
But, it sticks to the road like a gekko, makes impressive power for the price, can comfortably carry 4 adults, and can be had for WRX money.
NP, but maybe a little on the high side.

Np. I see one locally and it always looks good peeling out.

Rx8, NB Miata, uhhh..... S60 had a fantastic interior IF you avoided looking at the center console. 3 series? Maybe? Was 04 still the E46? No, it was the E90 right?
Yeah outside of the relatively few Japanese sporty cars, interiors weren’t doing too well

Totally missed the lugs. Yikes, that’s crazy for a relatively low power car that’s not THAT heavy. I wonder if there are aftermarket hub kits to convert to a 5 lug.
I’m tempted to go look at it. Any seats have to be better than my Outback’s, and realistically I’d either slowly upgrade just about everything (suspension, clutch, etc.) or take the engine/transmission and part out the rest.

Yuck. I mean, nothing will make that attractive, but being dash colored would at least help it blend in

CP, GM quality is not something I’ve ever believed enough in to buy a GM.

What is this “GM quality” that you speak of..? I know the meanings of the individual words, but I’ve never seen them put together in such a way

My old man has a first gen CTS with the base 6. Overall, a pretty solid car. I can imagine it being quite a beast with an LS. NP.

A buddy of mine has one of these.
Some thoughts:
- The rear differential is a wear item. Expect to replace it every 30k
- all the buttons in the dash have a coating that gets soft and wipes away when exposed to hot temps or solvent. eventually the center stack is lit up like a christmas tree. Everywhere.
- The clutch is difficult to modulate in normal driving. Makes the car seem herky jerky. Totally fine at 10/10ths.
- Shit breaks. A lot. And even though it’s a GM vehicle, it is a Cadillac. Parts and service are expensive. This doesn’t share a whole lot with other GM vehicles, aside from the motor.
- 6 lug wheels are fucking stupid. You would think that the 6 lug wheels from the STS-V would swap. They don’t. They require spacers to fit. Got a source for 6 lug spacers? No. Because 6 lug wheels are fucking stupid.
- 11 mpg.
- It’s pretty damn quick and makes NASCAR noises.

Absolutely go look at it. It’s one of the rare high performance machines that can haul more than 2 people while being pretty reliable. I just wanted to warn you that it isn’t a normal sedan. My friend has one, and he has owned it for 7 years now with no major problems.
There are ways to convert to 5 lug hubs, the standard level CTS had 5 lug wheels, but I’m not exactly sure how you’d go about doing it, or what the disadvantages are.
I’d either slowly upgrade just about everything (suspension, clutch,
etc.) or take the engine/transmission and part out the rest.
Not sure if the V is the best option for either of those scenarios. The LS6 supposedly doesn’t have much for upgrades without going into dangerous territory (it’s not really necessary either, it feels more powerful than most newer 400hp engines), and the stock suspension is amazing in it’s own right. If you just want something for an engine/trans donor, go for a GTO with the LS2 instead. Much more upgradability, cheaper purchase price.
I’m not sure I’d reccomend using a CTS-V as a track only car. Parts are expensive, several parts are not quite robust enough (both the wheels and rear diff don’t like abuse) and it’s a heavy thing to begin with. But if you’re looking for a serious performance street machine with some interior room to spare, there aren’t many options better than a 1st gen CTS-V.

My friend has gone 7 years on his stock rear diff. Avoid excessive abuse and it should hold up just fine. He also gets significantly better than 11mpg (maybe why the diff has lasted so long...)
But otherwise completely agree with you, the clutch is weird and the 6 lug wheels are really stupid. The shit that breaks tends to be interior bits, nothing important though.
